Buffett’s firm buys 10M share stake in GM

5月 17th, 2012 by whkx

Air Jordan Retro Shoes On SaleOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Warren Buffett’s company is apparently bullish on the U.S. auto industry.
Berkshire Hathaway Inc. took a new 10-million share stake in General Motors Co. in the first quarter. The investment comes as the Detroit automaker continues to rebound from bankruptcy three years ago. Fueled by U.S. vehicle sales, it posted first-quarter net income of $1 billion.
Buffett drives a GM-made Cadillac DTS sedan, so the investment could be a further sign of his preference among U.S. automakers. Berkshire is not invested in Ford Motor Co. or Chrysler, which is majority owned by Fiat SpA. www.shoesjordansforcheap.com
But the purchase of the GM stake, worth about $214 million as of Tuesday, could also have been made by one of Berkshire’s other investment managers. Berkshire’s only other known auto investment is its roughly 10 percent stake in Chinese electric car maker BYD.
Omaha-based Berkshire also revealed in a regulatory filing Tuesday that it boosted its stake in Wal-Mart by almost 8 million shares to 46.7 million shares.
The first-quarter move to expand Berkshire’s stake in Wal-Mart came before The New York Times published a report detailing allegations that Wal-Mart executives used bribes to speed the retailer’s expansion in Mexico.
Buffett told Berkshire shareholders earlier this month, however, that the scandal didn’t change his view on Wal-Mart’s value or its earning power.
Berkshire officials don’t typically comment on the quarterly investment reports, and they did not respond to a message on Tuesday about the latest update. Air Jordan Womens sale online
The documents Berkshire filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission also don’t reveal everything Buffett and the company’s two new investment managers were buying and selling in the first quarter. That’s because regulators allow them to omit some of the company’s holdings from the report. new air jordan fusion shoes
Berkshire tweaked a number of positions in its $75.3 billion portfolio during the first three months of 2012. It also added a stake of 1.6 million Viacom shares, which was the only new holding reported besides GM.
It also boosted its investments in DirecTV, Liberty Media, DaVita Inc. and the Bank of New York Mellon.
Berkshire reduced its holdings in Intel Corp., Kraft Foods, Dollar General, Procter & Gamble and Verisk Analytics.
The IBM stake that Berkshire first reported last fall grew to 64.4 million shares by the end of March from 63.9 million in December.
Initially, the IBM investment surprised many because Buffett had long refused to invest in technology companies because it’s too hard to predict which one will prosper in the long run. But Buffett said in November that IBM had become more of a service company with long-lasting customers who are reluctant to change.
Buffett makes most of the investment decisions at Berkshire, but Tuesday’s filing didn’t differentiate between choices he made and ones made by the company’s other investment managers, Todd Combs and Ted Weschler.
Buffett has said he doesn’t typically make investments worth less than $300 million, so many of the moves reported Tuesday are likely the work of Combs or Weschler.
Buffett has praised both Combs and Weschler and said the two men are managing $2.75 billion each, while Buffett oversees the remaining roughly $150 billion.
Combs started at Berkshire last year, so he is further along in building his portfolio. Weschler started early this year.
Berkshire’s investments are closely watched in the market because of Buffett’s successful record.
Berkshire occasionally receives permission from the SEC to delay disclosing some stock purchases to prevent others who follow Buffett’s moves from driving up the price of those stocks before Berkshire completes its purchases. Berkshire then discloses the purchases or sales in a subsequent quarter and issues amended reports for previous quarters.
The SEC says it grants such confidentiality to investment managers only when they can show they would be harmed substantially by immediate disclosure.
Besides investments, Berkshire owns roughly 80 subsidiaries, including clothing, furniture and jewelry firms, but its insurance and utility businesses typically account for more than half of the company’s net income. Other major investments include Coca-Cola Co.

Analysis: China’s “small stick” approach to South China Sea

5月 17th, 2012 by whkx

New Jordans 2012 For SaleHONG KONG (Reuters) - In a month-long standoff between China and the Philippines over a disputed shoal in the South China Sea, Beijing has so far refrained from sending warships from its increasingly powerful and modern navy to enforce its territorial claims.
Instead, China has deployed patrol vessels from its expanding fleet of paramilitary ships to Scarborough Shoal, known in Chinese as Huangyan Island. Naval experts say the intent is to minimize the risk of conflict and contain any regional backlash.
After alarming some of its neighbors in recent years with assertive behavior in the South China Sea, China has turned to “small stick” diplomacy, using unarmed or lightly armed patrol boats from fisheries, marine surveillance and other civilian agencies rather than warships.
Shen Dingli, a security expert at Shanghai’s Fudan University, said the role of these vessels was to demonstrate “soft power” and avoid the impression that China was engaged in gunboat diplomacy. www.shoesjordans23.com
“Therefore, it is more peaceful and moral,” he said.
Beijing, however, has shown no sign of compromise in a standoff that began when Chinese civilian patrol vessels last month intervened to stop the Philippines from arresting Chinese fisherman working in the disputed area. More such incidents are likely unless the Philippines can provide a counterweight to the challenge, either on its own or with allies, security analysts say.
China’s tough stance comes at a time of spectacular political scandal and swirling rumors of high-level infighting over the sacking of the once high-flying Chongqing Party boss, Bo Xilai.
Political analysts say the ruling Communist Party will be anxious to show that it is has the unity and strength to defend any challenge to the country’s territory ahead of the once-in-a-decade leadership later this year. Womens Nike Air Shoes
Senior leaders vying for top positions will also be keen to shore up their nationalist credentials with the politically powerful military.
ROCKS, REEFS AND RESOURCES
Both nations claim sovereignty over the group of rocks, reefs and small islands about 220 km (132 miles) from the Philippines with patrol vessels and fishing boats from each side deployed to the area in an increasingly acrimonious confrontation.
China’s defense ministry last week took the unusual step of denying reports it was preparing for war, but the People’s Liberation Army Daily, the military’s mouthpiece, warned the Philippines was making “serious mistakes” in maintaining its claim.
“We want to say that anyone’s attempt to take away China’s sovereignty over Huangyan Island will not be allowed by the Chinese government, people and armed forces,” it said.
Manila has called for the United Nation’s International Tribunal on the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) to rule on the dispute in the strategically important and resource-rich sea. Half the world’s merchant fleet tonnage sails across the sea and around these islets each year, carrying $5 trillion worth of trade.
While Beijing has thus far kept its navy at a distance, the Philippines, like most regional nations, is well aware it would be overwhelmingly outgunned by China’s powerful military if it came to a fight.
After more than two decades of double digit increases in defense spending, China has an expanding fleet of advanced warships, submarines — now the largest in Asia — and long-range strike aircraft. Kids Jordan Shoes sale
However, if Beijing resorts to force, it would almost certainly drive other claimants to territory in the South China Sea — including Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia — closer together. Those three countries, along with the Philippines, are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which is creating an EU style-community that also envisions joint security.
Regional nations also have begun to cement closer military ties with the United States. Starting with a trip late last year, U.S. President Barack Obama has touted a “pivot” toward the economically dynamic Asia-Pacific region in an effort to reassure nervous allies of the U.S. commitment as China flexes its economic and military muscle.
“CONTAINABLE EVENTS”
That means China will likely continue to send a strong message with its civilian patrol boats while keeping its real firepower in reserve, according to security experts.
“It is much easier for paramilitary vessels to assert sovereignty claims with less probability of escalation to armed violence,” said Christian Le Miere, a maritime security researcher at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London.
“It allows for more containable events and incidents.”
Other Asian nations have also been expanding their paramilitary fleets in recent years, particularly Japan which has a powerful coastguard. China’s use of these vessels, however, is drawing the most attention.
An early indication of the effectiveness of this strategy was China’s sustained harassment in early 2009 of the U.S. spy ship Impeccable in the South China Sea off Hainan Island.
Chinese patrol boats and surveillance ships buzzed and tormented the Impeccable for days, at one point even attempting to grapple its underwater sonar array used to identify and track submarines.
“If China had deployed naval ships, the response of the U.S. might have been more aggressive,” says Le Miere who has studied the use of paramilitary ships in Asia.
For China, devoting more resources to these forces fills an important gap in its maritime power between its massive merchant fleet and its expanding, blue water navy.
DISJOINTED COORDINATION
Chinese maritime specialists have called on Beijing to devote more attention to the civilian agencies responsible for enforcing domestic law and maintaining order in its territorial waters
The main Chinese government agencies that deploy patrol vessels in the South China Sea and other coastal waters are the Maritime Safety Administration, the Maritime Police of the Border Control Department, the Fisheries Law Enforcement Command, the General Administration of Customs and the State Oceanographic Administration
Other, smaller agencies including provincial governments and local police and customs also send patrol boats and surveillance vessels to sea.
The paramilitaries that China has sent to Scarborough Shoals include the 1,300-tonne Haijian 75 and 1,740-tonne Haijian 84, advanced surveillance vessels from the State Oceanographic Administration.
Beijing also stationed the 2,580-tonne Yuzheng-310, it’s most advanced fisheries law enforcement vessel, off the disputed shoal.
Some Chinese and foreign experts have criticized the disjointed coordination of these forces.
Outspoken People’s Liberation Army Strategist, Major General Luo Yuan, in March called for China to establish a unified coast guard, similar to those of Japan, the United States and Russia.
In interviews with state-controlled media, Luo said up to nine agencies were now responsible for enforcing maritime law which sometimes led to waste and inefficiency.
“If China integrated these forces, it could act more flexibly when maritime incidents occur,” he said.
As tension mounted at Scarborough Shoal, the Brussels-based International Crisis Group warned in a report late last month that China’s poorly coordinated and sometimes competing civilian agencies were inflaming frictions over disputed territory.
“Any future solution to the South China Sea dispute needs to address the problem of China’s mix of diverse actors and construct a coherent and centralized maritime policy and law enforcement strategy,” it said.

Exclusive: Asset manager TCW looks to cash in on foreclosed homes

5月 17th, 2012 by whkx

Air Jordan Retro Shoes On SaleNEW YORK (Reuters) - TCW, a Los Angeles-based asset management firm, is looking to raise up to $250 million from investors for a fund that seeks to capitalize on the red-hot U.S. rental market for single-family homes.
A marketing brochure reviewed by Reuters bills the new fund, the TCW Home Place Partners fund, as an opportunity for wealthy investors to invest in the “housing turnaround” by buying foreclosed homes from banks and federal government agencies.
The new fund, which will require investors to lock up their money for eight years, comes at a time when many hedge funds and private equity firms are raising money to acquire foreclosed homes with the intent to rent them out for several years before selling them as the housing recovery takes hold. www.jordansretroforsale.com
The single-family home fund is one of the first to be offered by a more traditional U.S. money manager. TCW, which manages $128 billion, may be best-known for its wide array of bond mutual funds. A TCW spokesman declined to comment.
The soon-to-launch TCW fund could be an indication that investor interest in foreclosed homes is widespread.
Some of that interest has been spurred by an initiative by the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which regulates Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to accept bids from investment groups seeking to buy an initial round of 2,500 Fannie-owned homes in cities like Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Phoenix. Bids for the Fannie pools are expected to be submitted by the end of this month. Save on Nike Women’s Running Shoes
Big banks also are looking to shed some of their huge inventory of foreclosed homes. I n April, Bank of America took bids for a second round of a bulk sale of foreclosed homes in California, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Pennsylvania and Georgia.
TCW’s Home Place Partners fund will mainly look to acquire single-family homes in California, Georgia, Arizona, Illinois and Florida.
“The combination of low prices, available inventory and stable rents has created a unique opportunity for investors to pursue a long-term buy-hold-lease strategy in the single-family housing space,” the TCW marketing brochure said. Shopping Results for Kids Jordan Shoes
Beside foreclosed homes, TCW will also look to pick up “distressed’ homes that are in the middle of the foreclosure process.
TCW has been investigating the market for renting out foreclosed homes for about two years. In fact, TCW quietly tested the idea with a small fund that used its own money — not outside capital — to acquire single-family homes in Phoenix, one of the hardest-hit housing markets in the nation, according to sources familiar with the matter. TCW bought many of those homes at courthouse foreclosure auctions.
Over the past year, Phoenix has proved to be an attractive draw for housing investors and speculators because the market for operating rental homes ha s been quite active.
On a conference call for prospective investors earlier this month, a TCW executive said once the housing market in a hard-hit city starts to correct, there is a “substantial price appreciation” for rental homes. In a taped replay of the May 2 conference call, the executive said that “based on our experience on the ground in Phoenix, we are now seeing a similar dynamic in Orlando and Sacramento, California.”
Other TCW executives on the call said they expect to use leverage, or borrowed money, to give the fund more buying power than the $250 million it expects to raise. The executive said TCW has had conversations with two major U.S. banks that are interested in lending money to investors seeking to buy foreclosed homes, rehabilitate them and operate them as rentals for several years.
The new fund, which will be managed by two senior TCW bond managers, Laird Landmann and Patrick Doyle, said investors can expect to earn a hypothetical gross internal rate of return of between 17 percent and 21 percent. Fusion Shoes Jordan Sale
“We do think this is a fairly profound investment opportunity,” said Landmann on the conference call.

Retired Los Angeles detective arrested for murder in Hawaii

5月 17th, 2012 by whkx

Nike Air Jordan 6LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A retired Los Angeles Police Department homicide detective has been arrested in Hawaii, accused of murdering his wife nearly six years after he blamed her death on an accidental fall, authorities said on Tuesday. Womens Nike Air Shoes
Daniel DeJarnette, 59, was taken into custody at his home on Hawaii’s Big Island on Monday, Hawaii police Lieutenant Greg Esteban said. He was indicted earlier in the day on a charge of second-degree murder by a grand jury, and pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.
Esteban said DeJarnette’s wife Yu was found near the couple’s home in November 2006 suffering from blunt force trauma, and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. new jordan shoes
He said DeJarnette, who moved to Ka’u, Hawaii following his retirement, was taken into custody at the time but released without charges after telling investigators his wife had been injured in an accidental fall at the home. jordan shoes for sale
“Investigators had some suspicions and they did recover evidence that was inconsistent” with DeJarnette’s explanation, Esteban said.
He declined to say what additional evidence or investigation led to the indictment by a Hawaii County grand jury, but said the case was never formally closed by Hawaii police detectives.
Hawaii County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Linda Walton said additional DNA testing was conducted earlier this year but said she could not elaborate on the evidence against DeJarnette.
DeJarnette was ordered held in lieu of $200,000 bail, and a judge set a trial date in the case for October 30. DeJarnette faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted. Shoes Jordan Fusions Sale
A public defender who represented him at the brief hearing said she had no information on the facts of the case. A Los Angeles police spokesman said department officials expected to issue a statement on the case later on Tuesday.

Washington state woman pleads guilty in son’s school shooting

5月 17th, 2012 by whkx

Kids Jordan ShoesSEATTLE (Reuters) - A Washington state woman pleaded guilty on Tuesday to weapons charges stemming from her 9-year-old son’s accidental shooting of a classmate with a loaded gun he found in his mother’s car, according to attorneys in the case.
Police in Bremerton, Washington, where the shooting took place, said the .45-caliber handgun the boy brought to school belonged to the mother’s boyfriend, but they believed the child took it from the glove box of the vehicle she drove.
The semiautomatic pistol, which the boy has said he was carrying as protection against bullies, went off in his backpack at the Armin Jahr Elementary School on February 22, critically wounding an 8-year-old girl, Amina Kocer-Bowman.
Both children were in third grade at the school, located about 70 miles west of Seattle.
The boy, who lives with his paternal uncle, was sentenced in March to 12 months of supervised probation and ordered to undergo counseling as part of a plea deal with prosecutors in Kitsap County juvenile court. www.buy-retrojordans.com
He also wrote a letter of apology to his classmate and agreed to testify against his mother, Jamie Chaffin.
That became unnecessary on Tuesday, when Chaffin, already a convicted felon barred from carrying a gun, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and agreed in turn to testify against her boyfriend, Douglas Bauer. cheap jordan for sale
An assault charge against Chaffin was dismissed as part of her plea deal, but she faces 12 to 16 months in prison when sentenced following Bauer’s trial, now scheduled for July. Jordan Fusion for sale
Bauer remains charged with felony third-degree assault for what prosecutors say was his role in negligently allowing the boy access to his gun. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison, said Kitsap County Deputy Prosecutor Jeremy Morris.
An attorney for relatives of the wounded girl said the family was upset by the outcome of the mother’s plea deal.
“Their disappointment was based on the fact that the assault charge … was dismissed and the person who bore responsibility for the shooting of their child was absolved of that responsibility by the plea bargain,” lawyer Jeffery Campiche said. “The crime, as the Bowman family sees it, was the horror of the discharge of a handgun in an elementary school classroom, not the fact that a felon possessed a handgun.”
Amina, now 9, has undergone numerous surgeries since she was shot and continues a difficult recovery from a shattered elbow and severe damage to internal organs, including her liver, spleen and a kidney, Campiche told Reuters.
Discharged from the hospital in early April, the girl is recuperating from home, and her mother was forced to quit her job to tend to her daughter, he said. The family does not know when Amina will be able to return to school.

McNamee testifies he gave Clemens steroids

5月 17th, 2012 by whkx

Jordan 8 Fusion on SaleBrian McNamee told jurors on Monday that he injected Roger Clemens with steroids in 1998 at the famed pitcher’s request in key testimony at the perjury trial of the former Major league Baseball star.
Fusion Shoes Jordan Sale
McNamee, the former trainer for Clemens, was the major prosecution witness as he and Clemens, who denies ever taking performance-enhancing drugs, have set down the same conflicting tales that they gave in a 2008 Congressional hearing.
It was that situation that led to the perjury trial of Clemens, a seven-time Cy Young Award winner as the top pitcher in his league who could face 30 years in prison and a fine of $1.5 million if convicted of lying to US lawmakers. www.buy-jordansretro.com
Sentencing guidelines suggest Clemens receive only between 15 and 21 months behind bars if convicted.
McNamee, the only person testifying who claims first-hand knowledge of Clemens taking steroids, said Monday that he first injected Clemens in the rear in Clemens’ apartment with steroids in 1998 while Clemens was playing for the Toronto Blue Jays.
McNamee said he injected Clemens with steroids and human growth hormones in 1998, 2000 and 2001 and said he saved several items used to inject Clemens, including gauze, cotton balls, needles and syringes, with prosecutors claiming the materials have been tested and show Clemens’ DNA on them. Shopping Results for Nike Air Jordan 1
Defense attorneys have said they will challenge that the items could have been contaminated either intentionally or deliberately based upon McNamee’s methods of storing them. Save on Nike Women’s Jordan Shoes
Clemens says the injections from McNamee contained vitamin B12 and idocaine, an anesthetic.
Andy Pettitte, the New York Yankees pitcher who had worked out with Clemens under McNamee’s guidance, testified that Clemens said he used human growth hormone only to say under cross-examination that he might have misunderstood the comments.
Clemens won 354 games in a 24-year career that saw him win the World Series twice with the New York Yankees in 1999 and 2000.
He also played for Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros and is among only four pitchers with more than 4,000 career major league strikeouts. Kid Jordan Shoes For Sale
Without the doping controversy, Clemens would be expected to be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame next year when he becomes eligible, but the links, revealed in the 2007 Mitchell Report probe into baseball doping, make it a tough fight for Clemens to receive enough support in media balloting for the select group.

The Swiss started in a brave mood and clinched the lead at 1:40 as Goran Bezina’s pass from the blue line slid through the traffic to Damien Brunner, who swept it into an unguarded post.

“When we face Switzerland at the world championships it’s always a hard-fought tough game,” Canada’s manager Brent Sutter said.
“The Swiss team opened the game with a well-structured hockey playing with great discipline. We came back with early goals in the second and third and it helped us a great deal to win the match.”
Meanwhile, in Stockholm the event’s co-hosts Sweden outscored 5-2 Germany to remain their group’s table-toppers with four wins in as many matches.
Chicago Blackhawks center Marcus Kruger gave Sweden an early lead scoring 1:17 into the first period when he sent home a rebound from just outside the crease.

“We were the favourites for the first time at the event but this role seems to be no good for us,” said Slovak manager Vladimir Vujtek.
“We didn’t play well and it was very difficult for us to battle through Kazakhstan’s defence. We had to do much more than we expected for three points today.” Jordan Shoes

Chastened Lakers aim to rekindle fire against Nuggets

5月 10th, 2012 by whkx

New Jordans 2012 For SaleLOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Left to lick self-inflicted playoff wounds after being stunned by the visiting Nuggets, the Los Angeles Lakers travel to Denver for Thursday’s Game Six knowing they need to regain energy and a sense of urgency.
The third-seeded Lakers wasted a golden opportunity to close out their best-of-seven Western Conference quarter-final series with a dismal shooting display in Tuesday’s 102-99 loss to the fired-up and fast-paced Nuggets.
Though Los Angeles finally made a game of it with a stirring fightback sparked by Kobe Bryant in the fourth quarter, they paid the penalty for a lackluster display, shooting only 38.9 percent from the field for their series lead to be cut to 3-2.
“We were all frustrated and didn’t play the game we wanted to play,” Spanish forward Pau Gasol, who contributed only nine points on four-of-11 shooting, said of the Lakers performance.
“We didn’t bring the energy that was required to put this team away - and they did. They played more desperate than we did and with more energy, and that gave them the chance to take the game.” www.shoesjordans23.com
While also frustrated by his team’s effort on Tuesday against the sixth-seeded Nuggets, Lakers coach Mike Brown has reminded his players they still hold the upper hand. Cheap Air Jordans
“The one thing our guys have to understand though is we’re still 3-2, we’re still in control of the series and we’ve just got to go on the road and get a win,” Brown said. “Nobody said this was going to be easy. I don’t go into any series thinking I’m going to sweep anybody, but you hope you do. Jordan Shoes
“So we’re still sitting in a good spot but we obviously just made it tougher on ourselves. We’ve just got to go take care of business on the road.”
The Nuggets are difficult to beat in the high altitude of Denver but the Lakers can feed off the positive memories of their gritty 92-88 road victory in Game Four which put them ahead 3-1 in the series.
“We’re ready to get in there, play as good as we can and try to close this out,” said Lakers reserve guard Steve Blake who made a three-pointer with 18 seconds to bury the Nuggets in Game Four.
“They are a good team, no question about it, so we’re going to have to really focus and execute when we get there and try to get it in a tough environment.”
Should the Lakers close out the series in the tough environment of Denver, they will next face the second-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder who swept the defending NBA champion Dallas Mavericks in the opening round of the playoffs.

Superb Falcao proves Europa League hitman again

5月 10th, 2012 by whkx

Nike Air Jordan Shoes On Sale  A double by Colombian striker Radamel Falcao inspired Atletico Madrid to a 3-0 win over fellow Spaniards Athletic Bilbao here on Wednesday and their second Europa League trophy in three seasons.

Falcao, who also became the first player to win successive Europa League/UEFA Cups with different sides having scored the winning goal for Porto last term, scored a brilliant first-half double to take his tally for this season’s competition to 12.

Brazilian attacking midfielder Diego, who missed the 2009 final for Werder Bremen against winners Shakhtar Donetsk because he was suspended, added a third late in the second-half to give Argentinian coach Diego Simeone a trophy just months after he took over the hotseat.

Atletico’s victory also saw them break Barcelona’s record of successive wins in European competition as they recorded their 12th to break the record of 11 set in the 2002/03 Champions League campaign.

Falcao, named after the great Brazilian footballer of the 1982 and 1986 World Cup teams, said he was especially pleased because peopel had advised him not to go to Atletico.

“I cannot contain my joy,” said the 26-year-old.Air Jordan Retro Shoes For Cheap

“After all that has been said, like that I made a mistake in going to Atletico, I showed them it was no mistake.

“We had highs and lows but we deserved to finish as we have done. The first goal? I didn’t have an angle so I simply looked for some space.

“They told me to look for the far post from time to time, and this time I listened,” he said with a smile.

“As for my future well we don’t know whether Atletico will play in the Champions League or Europa League next season.

“We still have a possibility of the Champions League and we are determined to achieve that.”

Simeone, who was a hard tackling midfielder who won over 100 caps, paid tribute to his players.Retro Jordans

“Winning is always marvellous, but you enjoy it more as a player, because one is on the pitch, one can scream, run, do a lap of honour,” said the 42-year-old.

“When you are a coach you leave that sort of thing to the players. I am proud of the players, happy for the fans, and thank those who brought me to the club in December.”

Athletic Bilbao’s coach Marcelo Bielsa took responsiblity for the defeat.

“I am disappointed, we did not play a good match,” said the former Argentina coach, who guided the Argentinians to the 2004 Olympic title.

“I am in charge of the strategy of the squad who failed to achieve its objective, which makes the disappointment even greater.

“Atletico deserved their win, but the scale of it was excessive.

“The feeling of personal responsiblity increases in the sense that the difference in quality of the two teams is not the one shown tonight,” added Bielsa, who coached Simeone when he was in charge of the national side.

Falcao opened the scoring on seven minutes with a spectacular goal taking the ball down the right and then into the box and as defender Fernando Amorebieta slipped he curled the ball round three defenders and the keeper from the edge of the box for his 11th goal in 15 Europa League games this season.

Bilbao’s far younger side - an average age of under 24 - took a while to settle but gradually started to make more of an impact.

Their leading striker Fernando Llorente - scorer of 29 goals this term - had missed with an early header when he was not helped by being shoved in the back but he should have done better in the 19th minute.

Found brilliantly in the box he only had Belgian youngster Thibault Courtois to beat but his usual sure touch let him down and his shot skimmed off his boot and wide.

Falcao, though, was unstoppable at the other end and his second stemmed from the hapless Amorebieta being dispossessed as he tried foolishly to dribble it away from the box.retro jordans for cheap

Turkish playmaker Ardi Turan found the Colombian, who completely fooled centreback Javi Martinez sending him the wrong way as he went the other before curling the ball into the top far left corner to double Atletico’s lead.

The two sides were more evenly matched in the opening 15 minutes of the second-half with Diego going close for Atletico but finding the side netting while Inigo Perez forced a good tip over the bar from 19-year-old Courtois.

Athletic kept pressing but clear chances were rare, though Gomez Ibai had some Atletico fans hearts beating faster with his volley from outside the area which just cleared the bar with 20 minutes remaining.

Markel Susaseta went even closer as the ball ping-ponged round the Atletico area and the ball fell to him unmarked five yards out from goal but with just Courtois to beat the ‘keeper - on loan from Chelsea - produced a great block with his legs.

Diego, though, sealed the win for Atletico with a fine solo goal with five minutes remaining, breaking through a weak tackle by the demoralised Amorebieta and firing home from the edge of the area.www.jordansretroforsale.com

Nike Air Jordan Shoes ShopSUMIRAGO, Italy (Reuters) - Mention the name Missoni, and most think of a fashion empire that revolutionized textile patterns, spawned the no-bra look on the catwalks, and is now a global brand that designs everything from sweaters to sheets to hotels.
But none of it would have happened had it not been for the 1948 London Olympics, where one kind of flame sparked another between Rosita Jelmini and Ottavio Missoni.
She was 16, going on 17, a shy Italian girl in London to improve her English. He was 27, a tall, strappingly handsome member of the Italian 400 meters hurdles team at the Games where the world was trying to put the devastation of war behind it.
“Our student seats were right near the changing rooms at Wembley Stadium. I saw him. He looked like he was 21 but I later found out that he was 27. He had an extraordinary running style,” Rosita, now 81, recalled in their home as Ottavio, now 91, sat next to her on an iconic Missoni zebra-patterned couch.
As a boy, Ottavio was a running wunderkind. In 1937, at the tender age of 16, he was the youngest member of Italy’s national team. That year in the 400 meters at a Milan event, he beat American Elroy Robinson, then the world record holder for the 880 yards.
Missoni ran in the 1938 European Championships, and won the 1939 Italian Championships and World Student Games.
Then the guns of war got in the way. Both the 1940 and 1944 games were cancelled. Ottavio, fighting on the Italian side in the Battle of El Alamein, was captured by the British and held as a prisoner of war for four years in Egypt.
“It wasn’t exactly a Club Med type of environment ideal for training,” he said, laughing as he leaned back on a Missoni pillow.
“I was …” And, like most couples who have been together for a lifetime, Rosita finishes her husband’s thought: “He likes to poke fun (at the English), saying that he was a guest of His Majesty the King of Britain”.
Indeed, if it were not for the luxurious surroundings, the covers of fashion magazines and signed photographs on the walls, and the hovering Bangladeshi butler in his crisp, white jacket, Ottavio and Rosita could be mistaken for any elderly couple sharing a park bench.

“I started running again with the little that was left in me because naturally, after four years as a prisoner of war I was not in top physical form, but I must have had something left in me and I won the Italian (4 X 400) title and was chosen to go to the Olympics,” he said.
In 1948, much of Italy was still recovering from the war’s devastation; the Marshall Plan to rebuild the country was in its teething phase and for many, the London Olympics offered a badly needed chance to cheer national athletes. Retro Jordan Shoes
Few people had televisions in their homes. Most watched the Games in bars and shop windows or on newsreels in cinemas.
“Those were beautiful Olympic Games because everything was natural and spontaneous, not like now, when everything is inflated, blown out of proportion,” said Ottavio, who is known by everyone by his diminutive “Tai”.
After she first saw him run at Wembley, Rosita and her school mates were invited to lunch with the Italian athletes in Brighton.
“During the lunch I realized he was so funny. He was handsome but not only. He was clever and intelligent and with a great sense of humor, which has been very helpful in all our life,” Rosita said.
They married in 1953 and set up a small workshop making track suits in Gallarate, near Rosita’s home village, and later moved on to knitwear, presenting their first collection in Milan in 1958 at the dawn of what was to become known as Italy’s economic miracle.
“We started making a profit after 10 years of activity and that day I felt like the richest man in the world,” Ottavio said.
Their early work was spotted and supported by Anna Piaggi, an influential editor of the Italian fashion magazine Arianna; and another big break came in 1965 when they made a knitwear collection together with designer Emmanuelle Kahn.
“We tried to break the rules … we lived in very favorable times because it was the beginning of what then came to be called Pret-a-Porter,” Rosita said.
“High fashion was declining and there was this new thing, Ready-to-Wear, that was kicking off and we found ourselves in this situation in the early 1960s. With our 10 years of experience, we knew what we wanted to do and tried to find our own way,” she said.
THE BATTLE OF THE BRAS
Then, in 1967, the battle of the bras really put them on the fashion map.
Missoni were invited to show at the Pitti Palace in Florence but before the models went out on the runways Rosita noticed that their bras were showing through their tops, ruining the intended color and pattern effect.
In the dressing room, she told the models to remove them but under the runway lighting their outfits became totally transparent and the incident caused a sensation.
“I didn’t think we were doing anything scandalous but they accused us of turning the Pitti Palace into the Crazy Horse,” she said, referring to the famous burlesque palace in Paris.
They were not invited to return the next year but the Florence bra incident became a cause célèbre and soon afterwards Missoni was on the covers of big name fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Women’s Wear Daily and Bazaar.
KEEPING IT IN THE FAMILY Nike Air Jordan Shoes
Today, the mamma and papa company Ottavio and Rosita founded on a shoestring has become a fashion dynasty run by their children Luca, Angela and Vittorio and some grandchildren.
Based in the northern Italian village of Sumirago and within sight of Monte Rosa, or pink mountain, on the Swiss-Italian border, it employs about 250 people and in 2011 had revenues of more than 150 million euros.
Rosita, who sports a small pigtail flowing down the back of her neck, is still active in the company, running the Missoni Home collection and travelling around the world for Missoni Hotel, a lifestyle hotel chain in collaboration with the Rezidor Hotel Group.
Missoni hotels have already opened in Edinburgh and Kuwait, and new ones are planned for Oman and Brazil.
Ottavio is still active. He participated in competitions for veteran athletes until he was 90 and last September he was due to be the oldest athlete at the European Masters Games in Italy, competing in the javelin, discus and shot put but he withdrew after he developed back pain.
He spends his time painting, swimming and exercising in his small private gym surrounded by his many athletic medals and fashion tributes.
“Sometimes they take me around as if I were a religious relic but I refrain from working miracles now,” he wrote in his autobiography “A Life on the Wool Line,” a play on words because in early races a strand of wool was used as finish tape.
Every year in July, the Missonis take their vacation on their boat along the Dalmatian coast on the Adriatic, where Ottavio was born of Italian parents in what is now Dubrovnik. This year they will postpone their trip so they can watch the Games on television.
Asked if he would like to go to London to watch the Games, he said: “The desire is there but I lack ….”. And, once again, Rosita completed his thought, adding “the body”.
They clasped their hands, their veins forming a pattern not unlike one of their classic geometric designs and laughed, in unison, like a couple on a park bench remembering old times.
